Barnum Elementary School is a widely diverse urban school located in the Barnum neighborhood in west Denver. Presently enrolled are 480 students. Educational services are offered for students Early Childhood (ECE) through fifth grade in a self-contained setting. Included in these services are English Language Acquistion (ELA), Technology, Library Media, Art, Physical Education, Music, Special Education (mild, moderate), Challenge, Title I Math and Conflict Resolution Intervention. Also, there are a variety of after school programs for both students and their families.
Barnum has received a grant from the Carmel Hill Fund to
implement the Accelerated Reader, STAR Reading Assessment Test, Star
Earl Literacy for Emergent Readers and English in a Flash
computerized guided independent reading and vocabulary
programs. Our school-wide discipline program, math curriculum (Every Day
Math), District Literacy Initiative and Reading 1st program provide a
systematic, consistent and concise education for children. At Barnum
we address and meet the individual needs of our students by
multi-age, flexible grouping and regrouping of students according to
reading levels and English language proficiency levels.
