Book Fair is Coming

Barnum Scholastic Book Fair is coming!  See how you can help and when you can purchase books!

Help out Mrs. Rubin!  Barnum Library would love volunteers to shelve books!  When students can find books on the shelf where it belongs it helps them to learn how to use libraries throughout their life.

Contact Mrs. Rubin via e-mail emily_rubin@dpsk12.org or call, 720-424-9613.

Barnum’s New Library

May 1, 2014 was a big day at Barnum. Dignitaries, Colorado Rockies legend Vinny Castilla, volunteers, and press ascended on Barnum to celebrate the reveal of our new library makeover!

Target and their partner The Heart of America Foundation teamed up to give our outdated library a complete makeover. Not only do we have 2,000 new books for our library, we now have 30 brand new iPads and a secured charging cart. There is brand new carpet and paint to spruce up the look of our library. There are new kid-friendly shelves for all the books and our students enjoy using new tables and chairs. A circulation desk is a focal point along with famous quotes on the walls. Target design and construction teams created new artwork and spaces for students to read and learn. There is even a “Wall of Fame” which includes pictures of famous people and our two “Hero of the Heart” winners Skylar and Matthew.

It all began when librarian Ms. Hungerford started the application process in January. She heard about the Target makeovers before and wanted to get one for Barnum. In order to get the makeover, you need a certified full-time librarian and need to fill out a long application. Barnum was one of the three finalists chosen from the application in the Denver area. A panel consisting of 5 people from Target and The Heart of America interviewed the Barnum makeover committee. The next day learned we won the Target makeover!

There was another surprise for the students at Barnum. Each student got 7 new books to call their own!

A big thank you to all the Target volunteers, Target and The Heart of America Foundation!
