Gelmarie Ortiz-Nieves
Dean of Culture

Colorado became my home in 2011.  I love hiking and skiing and the beautiful Colorado mountains.  I also enjoy reading and writing!  I received my bachelors in Elementary Education and my masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida in Orlando.  I was born in Puerto Rico, but Florida is where I call my home.  I taught in Florida for 13 years.  During that time, I taught 3rd through 5th grade and was an ELA Resource Teacher/Instructional Dean.  I am currently on my 5th year teaching in Denver Public Schools.  With DPS, I’ve taught 5th and 2nd grade.  My passion and love for education continues to grow every day.  I am very excited to become a member of the Barnum Elementary Family.  I look forward to working with the students, parents, and staff.
